Poem of the Week
A short and sweet Christmas poem this week, by the American poet Henry Wadsworth Longfellow. An interesting fact about Longfellow – he was so popular in the States that by 1874 he was earning $3000 a poem. That’s the equivalent of around $70,000 in today’s money.
Christmas Bells
I heard the bells on Christmas Day
Their old, familiar carols play,
And wild and sweet
The words repeat
Of peace on earth, good-will to men!
Henry Wadsworth Longfellow (1807-1882)

Some of you may have already seen the poem brought to my attention by the lovely Cici. It was penned by an Irish Franciscan Brother called Richard Hendricks. It’s a message of hope in these trying times.
