Interview with Lynda

We had a sit down with Lynda Sandi, the manager at Wilnash Care who told us all about how she got in to care work and her time at Wilnash since she joined! Grab a cuppa - its an interesting 5 minute read…

After being a housewife for over 20 years, a friend was convinced I would make a great care assistant and persuaded me to attend an interview with Wilnash.  I got the job, even though my confidence was pretty low and I thought this was something I never wanted to do - but I accepted and fell in love with the role after just a few days - I have now worked for Wilnash for over 9 years.

After being a carer for 4 years, I was promoted to Care Coordinator (whilst still working as a care assistant, as I didn’t want to give that part of the job up!)  In 2018 I was promoted to Manager, with the additional responsibilities of overseeing the company and staff and holding regular meetings with clients, family members and health professionals.

As a Company, Wilnash encourage their staff to attend regular courses, to ensure training on topics such as Dementia and Strokes are always up to date.  We want to get it right so both management and staff embrace the free training.  I have been successful and qualified in NVQ 2,3,5 Health and Social Care, and the Care Certificate.

To come and work within care, can be seen as a negative career, but the job is not just about care – we are assisting people to maintain their independence which is so vital when you get older.  In this job you will meet remarkable people who you wouldn’t normally meet - the history and stories they share are wonderful, funny and inspiring and they truly appreciate all the help we provide.

It can be extremely sad when we lose a client, as we have built close relationships with them, but we all support each other, including family members through this difficult time.

If you feel that you are a person who enjoys helping others and want a flexible career, joining as a Carer is a great place to start and then build on your career if you wish.  We have had Carers go on to be District Nurses and Child Psychologists as the training we provide can lead into other fields of caring and help with career advancement.  However, I don’t think everyone can become a Carer, it is a very demanding and frustrating job sometimes, but the rewards far out way the negatives.

Wilnash is a fantastic company to work for; we pride ourselves in being different.  We have a passion for what we do and after all these years I still love my job very much.
