Road Trip to Romania
Towards the end of July our marvellous carer Cicera (Cici to us) set off with her family for a four week holiday in Romania. But they didn’t just hop on a plane. They drove the 1,500 miles! It’s a good job that Cici loves driving. Cici also loves a cup of tea, so we sat down with a cup each and had a look through her photos of the epic journey.
Cici shared the driving duties with her husband John. They drove through Belgium, Germany, Austria and Hungary before reaching Romania. It took two full days, which included a stopover in Germany. Cici thoroughly enjoyed the journey, and was particularly complimentary about the German and Austrian roads. But in Cici’s words, Hungarian drivers are “very dangerous”. I asked her how her son Nick behaved on the journey. Was he constantly moaning and asking “are we nearly there yet?” But Cici said he was such a good boy. They played games and Nick did a lot of reading. But it was a tiring journey and they were all pleased when they reached John’s home town Bazna.
Bazna is a very picturesque collection of villages in the region of Transylvania. John has many family members still living here and it was lovely to see them all again. There was plenty of eating, drinking, talking and laughing.
But John was also kept very busy working on the farmhouse that he and Cici own. Nick had a great time and made many new friends.
John owns a small dairy farm with his brother and many hours were spent watching the cows and wandering around the tranquil landscape. Many hours were also spent consuming the produce from the farm garden!
So it was a great trip enjoyed by all the family. Cici hopes to visit her mum and daughter in Brazil next year. But she hopes to visit Romania again as soon as possible. Cici, being the generous person that she is, has even invited me along!
