So Far, So Good...
You may remember that we introduced our new carer Ally to you a few weeks ago. Well, we are absolutely delighted with her!
She has very quickly fitted in here at Wilnash Care and she is already a much loved and respected member of the team. She has a great work ethic and understands instinctively the importance of person-centred care. So we thought it would be a good time to ask Ally how she was finding life as a carer. The photo in this piece is of Ally working towards her care certificate with our trainer Rae. Note the presence of the two most important elements in any training session here – tea and biscuits!
So Ally, how have you found life as a carer at Wilnash so far?
“I’m absolutely loving it. I have been made to feel so welcome by all the staff and I have enjoyed meeting so many of our lovely clients. It can be challenging sometimes, and you have to think on your feet. But the training provided is excellent and I always know that I have the full support of the management team. Every day is different and being a carer is so rewarding. I’m really pleased that I made this career choice.”
Is it how you expected it to be?
“Basically yes. There hasn’t been anything too unexpected so far. Apart from how mad it can be in the office sometimes! Lynda has had me laughing out loud on more than one occasion.”
What do you enjoy most about being a carer?
“Making a genuine difference to people’s lives really is very rewarding. And I can honestly say that I do that every day. It’s also nice to be part of such a positive and friendly team.”
Is there anything you don’t enjoy?
“The role is very varied, but I have enjoyed all aspects of care. There is quite a lot of training involved, even once you are actually working as a carer. But Rae makes it fun, and it is all helps towards personal and professional development.”
What would your advice be to anyone who was considering a career in care?
“Well I have to be honest and say that I don’t think it’s for everyone. But if you like helping people and making a genuine difference, and if you like working as part of a team, it’s a great job.”
