Lynda's Reading Habits Q&A
As Lynda will be reviewing our book of the month; The Flower Girls by Alice Clark-Platts we took the opportunity to ask her about her reading habits!
What are your earliest reading memories?
“I don’t have any specific memories of reading as a child. I didn’t grow up in a household that was full of books. My mum was always too busy to read really. But I do remember that my brother Paul liked to read. I’m sure I must have read books at school, but I can’t remember any particular titles or authors.”
Would you say that books are an important part of your life now?
“Yes I would. I can get lost in a good story – it helps me to take my mind of everyday worries and pressures.”
What type of books do you like to read?
“In the past I loved horror stories by the likes of Dennis Wheatley. But these days I prefer crime fiction and thrillers.”
Who are your favourite authors?
“I particularly enjoy books by Tony Parsons, Mark Billingham and Peter James.”
Have you especially enjoyed any particular books recently?
“I thoroughly enjoy the DC Max Wolfe series by Tony Parsons. If I had to pick one as a standout it would be the first in the series, ‘The Murder Bag’.
Another stand out read for me was ‘Mr Mercedes’ by Stephen King. This was the first in a trilogy of novels featuring a retired detective called Bill Hodges. An excellent read!”.
How do you consume books?
“I do love new hardback books – the feel and the smell of them. But these days I find that I don’t have much spare time. So I love the convenience of audiobooks. I can listen to them while I’m driving, doing the ironing, or nodding off to sleep!”.
