I’m sure that most of you know our vivacious carer Jenny Lee. But what you may not know is that she has a rekindled passion for art. We had a little chat with our very own Frida Kahlo to find out more.

Did you enjoy making art as a child?

“Yes from an early age I always enjoyed drawing. I always had crayons and then pencils in my hand. When I got to senior school I had a very encouraging art teacher called Mrs Macdonald and she helped me to achieve a grade B in my GSCE. I continued to draw after leaving school but then children came along and the stresses and strains of family life meant that my art went on to the back burner”.

How did you get back in to art?

“I saw an advert for ‘Art & Thrive’ and thought to myself why not give it a go? They run Paint ‘n’ Play evenings for adults and its great fun. They are very social occasions and I’m also learning new skills and a new appreciation of art. The teacher displays a painting and then we basically copy it. We are instructed on form, lines and composition and then we are encouraged to express our personality and become creative. I have never had much experience using paint but I’m really enjoying it. You can see a couple of my efforts attached to this piece. “

Do you think you will continue to paint and enjoy art?

“Most definitely. I find it very relaxing and I enjoy the social aspect of Art & Thrive. I would also like to spend more time viewing art and developing my knowledge. Actually, Barry has promised to take me to some art galleries and I will hold him to that! The National Gallery and Tate Modern are up first!
