Carer of the Month: Jane

Most of you will know the lovely Jane. She has been working at Wilnash since August 2017 and has proved herself to be an excellent carer. She is much loved by colleagues and clients alike. Lynda sat down with Jane and had a little chat about her time working in care.

What did you do before you became a carer?

“For over ten years I worked as a dinner lady and for most of that time I really enjoyed it. But when the management changed it became much less enjoyable. So I decided it was time to try something new. I thought that I would give care a go and I haven’t looked back.”

What do you enjoy about working as a carer?

“I love meeting new people, and working in care provides the opportunity to meet people from a wide range of backgrounds. It’s fascinating hearing their stories. Some of our clients have had extraordinary lives. The main satisfaction in my role comes from helping people to maintain their independence. My clients are usually so grateful for the support that I give them.”

Is there anything you dislike about working as a carer?

“Nothing!”

What do you like to do in your spare time?

“What spare time? Ha, only joking. As Barry knows, I really enjoy reading and losing myself in a good story. And I’ve recently started to enjoy cooking again. When I have a free weekend I like to spend it at my boyfriend’s Doug home in Redcar, North Yorkshire and I occasionally drive down to see my son Mo in Wales.”

Management says….

“Jane is a hard-working and very caring person. She is very attentive with her clients and we always get excellent feedback from Jane’s very happy people.”
