Care Practitioner: The Full Breakdown
MAIN PURPOSE To provide care and support services to service users.
SCOPE OF JOB Responsible to the Care Services Manager.
OBJECTIVES To attend to the needs of residents under the guidance of the person in charge.
Main Duties and Responsibilities:
Care Assistants are responsible for maintaining all policies and procedures as laid down by Wilnash Care limited e.g. Health & Safety, Confidentiality etc.
All duties carried out must envelope Social Care Codes of Practice, to include aspects such as:
a) Service User’s rights to individuality
b) Service User’s rights to be treated with dignity
c) Service User’s rights to privacy
d) Service user’s rights of choice
3. Care Assistants are required, at all times, to adhere to Wilnash Care’s confidentiality policy.
4. Care Duties: To assist service users/residents with daily living activities such as:
a) Assist to dress/undress
b) Assist to wash, shower and bath
c) Assist with continence requirements including a knowledge of equipment e.g. commode, catheter care, observing service users need for privacy and dignity
d) Deal with incontinence in a sensitive and caring manner
e) Assist with care of hair and nails (Note: This does not include trimming of nails as per policies and procedures)
f) Assist with shaving
g) Assist with appliances e.g. mobility aids.
h) Pressure area care as directed by person in charge/care manager
i) Report any changes in residents well-being directly and promptly to person in charge/care manager
j) Assist with cleaning of teeth, dentures, spectacles etc.
k) Assist service users to transfer room to room, as required
l) Be aware of the importance of communicating effectively with service users, paying particular attention to visual and hearing impairments
m) Be aware of and to be able to communicate verbally and non-verbally with service users.
n) Encourage independence at all times, both in and outside of home
o) Be aware of and involved in individual care programmes for service users
p) Accompany service users to hospital, G.P., dentists, optician and chiropodist appointments as directed by person in charge/care manager
q) Contribute to the assessment of individual service users
r) Contribute in the care planning process
s) Contribute in the review process
5. Care of Service Users/Residents environment:
a) To make/change beds and deal appropriately with soiled linen
b) To assist service users/residents to keep room tidy
c) Care of linen and clothing
d) To be aware of evacuation procedures in case of fire
e) To be aware of and maintain health & Safety policy
f) To respect service users/residents need for privacy with special regard to service users/residents own rooms
6. Kitchen and Dining:
a) To set and clear tables for service users/residents as necessary
b) To serve meals and assist with eating
c) To observe the eating patterns of individual service users and inform the person in charge/Care Manager of any changes
7. General:
a) To answer/respond to emergency call systems
b) To report directly to the person in charge/care manager, any items for recording in care plans
c) To participate in staff meetings
d) To undertake tasks which could reasonably fall within the job role
8. Administration:
a) To ensure regular contact is maintained with service manager
b) To report any concerns/queries involving yourself, service user or their families to the manager
c) To attend/undertake training as and when required
d) To contribute to the review of care plans if requested
Other Main Duties:
To follow the directions and instructions laid down in the Carers handbook and or the direction of the service manager.
To act at times as a representative of the company and to support its good reputation.
To attend all calls at the designated times as laid down in the assignments and fulfil the care in accordance with the Care Plan.
To inform your immediate supervisor when you are unable to attend calls on time or fulfil the requirements of the Care Plan.
To respect service user’s confidentiality in accordance with the policy as laid down.
To pay particular attention to the rules regarding financial transactions for service users.
To avoid placing you or a service user’s health is at risk all duties must be performed as per your training.
To undertake company induction training and ongoing training to NVQ Level 2 or its equivalent, as desired.
To be aware that while we carry insurance in cases of small claims for damage to service user’s property and equipment if you are deemed to be careless you may incur a charge.
To act on all instructions given to you by your managers and supervisors, except where you feel that you would be in breach of service user safety.
To follow the prescribed complaints procedure in cases of dispute and all accidents, even if minor, must be reported to the Office.
To bear in mind that you communicate any change in a service user’s circumstances to the Office.
To further the standing of the company and to ensure that you are flexible in your working practices.
